Private Edwin Bennett, 45976, embarked with the 3rd Battalion, Auckland Regiment, New, Zealand Expeditionary Force and subsequently transferred to the Entrenching Battalion. He was reported missing believed Prisoner of War 16.4.1918. Subsequently classed as Killed in Action following identity disk being forwarded by 2 Bn Leinester Regiment.

He died on the 16th April 1918, age 20. He was the son of E W and C M Bennett of Taradale, Napier, NZ. He is buried in the Meteren Military Cemetery, France and he lies in Plot 2, Row M, Grave 324. Meteren is a village about two kilometres west of Bailleul. on the main road to Cassel. The Military Cemetery is on the north side of the village, on the west side of the road to Berthen.
