NEW WW2 Memorial

In 1999 a new 1939-1945 Cremation Memorial was installed in the cemetery, bearing the names of 7 servicemen whose ashes were formerly stored in the chapel building in the south-west corner of the cemetery. Their final resting place is marked by a plaque in the chapel lawn.

Those whose names are recorded here died in the services of their country and were cremated at Waikumete.

Lieutenant 618189 NZ MILITARY FORCES died 01-05-1943 aged 50 years.
BRODIE, GEORGE ERIC SILKE
Captain 604465 NZ MILITARY FORCES died 29-01-1943 aged 46 years.
CHAPMAN, ALLEN BRYAN
Sapper 468771 NZ ENGINEERS died 02-10-1947 aged 42 years.
DALE, THOMAS BRIDSON
Lieutenant NZ PERMANENT STAFF died 16-12-1941 aged 56 years.
HAWKE, FREDERICK JOHN
Serjeant 809668 NZ MILITARY FORCES died 22-10-1943 aged 56 years.
McGREGOR, IAN
Pilot Officer 401461 RNZAF died 17-12-1942 aged 26 years.
PLAISTER, REGINALD
Leading Aircraftman 405391 RNZAF died 26-10-1944 aged 51 years.

THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE

The ashes of these men were interred in 1977, having previously been stored in the chapel building in the southeast corner of this cemetery.  Their final resting place is marked by a plaque in the chapel lawn
