Motor vehicle accident

Maintenance Wing, RNZAF Station Ardmore.

Skidded while turning his motorcycle from Alfriston Road into the Great South Road at Manurewa at about 1720, fell off and was run over by a vehicle following immediately behind. Died shortly afterwards at the scene and is buried in the Howick Public Cemetery, Auckland.

As the rider turned the corner he would have been struck by the glare of the very strong evening sunshine, which probably contributed to his accident.

Flight Rigger: NZ4311093 AC1 George Ernest LATHAM, RNZAF - Age 21.
